Been shooting a bunch of BMX lately, and had a super overcast day yesterday at Sheep Hills in Huntington Beach, CA. Ran this one through some HDR processing to bring out the sky and liked the outcome. Rider is Brandon Dosch, 18 years old and killing it!
Some of you guys may have heard of him, most probably haven’t. His name is Tom Jones, and he’s an extreme athlete. He holds 7 National and 3 international Muay Thai titles, a world record for running marathons (26.2 miles) 121 days in a row, and most recently found his new passion…Paddleboarding.
I’ve heard people call it “cop-out surfing for old people” but at age 43, Tom just set another world record, stand-up paddling the full U.S. Pacific coastline from Canada to Mexico on a 14 foot board over the course of 3 months. The event, called California Paddle 2007, was created to bring awareness to Plastics polluting our beaches and oceans.
I’ve had the chance to meet up with him a few times to shoot some photos. Watching him maneuver a board that’s 3 times his length, and weighs nearly as much as he does is impressive as it is. Watching him paddle out over 6′+ waves and keep his balance is unreal. Although these photos aren’t all that impressive, his stories sure are. You can read more about him on his website at www.tomjonestv.com
